Unknown gunmen kill Traditional Ruler, ‘Prime Minister’ in Imo as fear grips villagers

Fear has gripped the people of Orsu Obodo Community in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State following the killing of their traditional ruler, His Royal Highness (HRH) Eze Victor Ijioma by unknown gunmen.

Reports had it that assailants also cut short the life of Isama of Mgbele (the traditional prime minister) of Mgbele community in the same Oguta local government area.

It was learnt that the two leaders were killed in separate attacks in different locations on Thursday.

Impeccable source said the Orsu Obodo monarch was ambushed at Umuamaka Junction in the neighbouring Izombe town, where he was killed inside his car before setting his remains ablaze.

However, the Mgbele Prime Minister was reported to have been killed in his town.

Meanwhile, security operatives have beefed up security in Izombe, Mgbele and other communities around the area with a view to arresting security challenge in the area.

“Eze Igwe of Orsu Obodo was accosted while he was driving at Umuakama Junction in the afternoon. They shot him, and they set him ablaze inside his car and left the scene.

“As I am talking to you now, soldiers and other security operatives are currently combing the villages in search of the assailants”.

Efforts to reach the State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, for comment on the incident were not fruitful as at the time of going to press.
