David Umahi Federal University Health Sciences (DUFUHS), Uburu in partnership with Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA) and David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State at the weekend, organized a free medical outreach for over 5000 patients.

The free Medical outreach held at Eke-Aja Uburu,was in honour of David Umahi the Minister for Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State on his Birthday celebration.

The patients which includes aged women, aged men, youths and journalists with different ailments including breast and cervical cancer, prostrate, diabetes, arthritis, ulcer, and others ailment at the weekend received free screening and treatment.

The free medical outreach also featured blood sugar check, blood pressure check, dental check, eye check, deworming and nutritional talk, took place at Eke Ajah market in the local government.

In their different remarks, DUFUHS Vice Chancellor, Professor Jesse Uneke and the Chief Medical Director of AE-FUTHA, Professor Robinson Onoh said the gesture was to celebrate the Minister of Works, David Umahi the founder of DUFUHS and DUFUTH who turned 62 at the weekend.

According to them, the Minister of Works David Umahi has done well in service to humanity and the country.

Uneke described Umahi as a gift and blessing to Ebonyi State and Nigeria and commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing him Minister of Works to drive the Renewed Hope agenda on road infrastructure revolution.

He further said that Nigerians are witnessing quality road infrastructure built to stand the test of time under Umahi as the Minister.

On his part, the Chief Medical Director of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Professor Robinson Onoh said Umahi deserved to be celebrated because of his immense contribution to the development of state and the county in general.

“The Minister of Works has done a lot for humanity, he has done a lot for Ebonyi State, he has done a lot for Nigerians and I guess, one of the things we should do for him, is to celebrate him and that is what we have by organizing this free medical outreach to also touch lives. We have to give better health to individuals”, he said.

One of the beneficiaries of the medical outreach, Akpa Njoku, an eye patient commended organizers of the medical mission and prayed God to bless them
.
He disclosed that the eyeglasses he was given at the medical outreach after being examined and treated, were far better than the ones he was given in the hospitals he visited in search of solutions to his eye problem.

Others who were screened of cervical cancer, ulcer and others including Amara Chukwu Egwu-agha, lauded the organizers for what the quality healthcare outreach and prayed that God bless the Minister and lead him from glory to glory.
