In line with His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s agenda to ensure affordable and adequate healthcare delivery to Ndi Enugu, Hon. Michael Uche Ogalla, the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, has introduced the Igbo-Eze North Primary Healthcare Support Initiative. This initiative aims to improve primary healthcare services in the area.

The launch event, held at the Igbo-Eze North Council Secretariat on Friday, January 24, was attended by Dr. Ifeyinwa Ani-Osheku, the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and other notable guests in the health sector.

As part of the initiative, Hon. Ogalla provided drugs for various health centers in the local government area. He also sensitized the people about the Enugu State health insurance scheme, to enable the good people of Igbo-Eze North to register with the scheme, which allows registered individuals to receive treatment at any government health center free of charge after registration at a cost of twelve thousand naira annually.

The Executive Chairman called on Community leaders to own and patronize health facilities in their domain, as they are no more mere immunization points.
He encouraged the communities to take advantage of this health insurance scheme to improve their access to quality healthcare services.

Earlier, upon assumption of office, the Council Chairman established the Action Committee on Health (ACH) to resuscitate health centers in Igbo-Eze North LGA, which had deteriorated due to neglect.

Igbo-Eze North healthcare support initiative received significant support from various donors. The Council Chairman, supported the scheme with two million Naira; HRM Igwe Cyril Ayogu, Chairman of Igbo-Eze North Council of Traditional Rulers, donated one million Naira, with 500,000 Naira allocated to his Autonomous Community, Umuopu, and another 500,000 Naira for the general benefit of Igbo-Eze North.

Other notable donors include Dr. Ben Nwoye, who contributed 500,000 Naira, as well as HRH Igwe Wilfred Ekere of Ogrute and HRH Igwe Prof. Onoja of Ugbaike.

A total of five million Naira was raised at the event to fund the Igbo-Eze North healthcare support initiative. This generous donation will enable over 460 individuals to benefit from the Enugu state health insurance scheme, registering them for free and providing access to essential healthcare services for one year.

The event’s highlight was the presentation of drugs to the Executive Secretary of ESPHCDA who then handed them to the health department of Igbo Eze North LGA which will be under strict monitoring of the Action Committee on Health for compliance and effective utilization.
