A non- political group, the Supreme Council of Southern youth Leaders yesterday inaugurated newly elected members of the National Executive of the organisation.

It is aimed to build a strong synergy and symbiotic relationship amongst youth leaders across the states of Southern Nigeria.

In his inaugural speech after sworn-in by Hon Sir, F.O Afubero Esq at Uptown Resort Hotel, Onitsha, the President of the union, Ambassafor Chief Author Obiora, stated that the existence of the group marked the beginning of a growing awareness and consciousness amongst Southern youth leaders.

Obiora said it gives strong and unequivocal voice to the Nigerian project and actively advocate policies aimed at bringing accelerated infrastructural and human capital development to the Southern Nigeria.

He explained that the group stands to unite the southern Nigerian youth for unity in their struggle for peace movement, equal rights and justice in Nigerian political history, adding that North has its own and it is the turn of the southern Nigeria to make the right move.

The former youth leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and deputy president, Coalition of all the ethnic groups in Nigeria, regreted that the youth and leaders of the youth in Southern Nigeria remained divided along ethnic, religious and party.

He said that the unity of the region especially within the youth community has become paramount in other to speak with one voice.

He lamented that the government at all levels within Southern Nigeria had continued to scheme out the youth and their leaders of value equation.

Obiora said that the youths constitute over 60% of the entire population of Southern Nigeria and as well provide over 70% of the workforce of the region and then appeal the Federal government under President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to provides a rare opportunity for strategic integration into the scheme of things within the polity.

He however called on all youth based organizations within Southern Nigeria to as a matter of regional urgency partner with the council in other to raise a strong unified voice for the region and the youth in particular.

In their resolutions, the council through their President, Amb. Author Obiora reiterated its commitment to the unity of the country and maintains the stance without compromise.

They resolved that for the Federation to thrive politically, economically and otherwise, equity and fairness should be strictly encouraged and to strategically partner with all political leaders within Southern Nigeria for fostering regional cohesion.

They also appeal to the federal government to expedite action on the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for the justification of distributive justice and to tackle headlong the escalating issues of insecurity within the Southern region as peddled by non state actors.

The Council reiterated appeal to President Tinubu’s government to establish a special national ethnic nationalities for peace and development commission.
.
He promised to support the administration of the Federal Government led by President Tinubu as constitutionally mandated.
