Newly crowned Captain of Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, Chukwudi Nwaodu has vowed to re-enact the superlative days of the club.
.
In a chat with sports journalists after he was appointed as Rangers Skipper on Friday, Nwaodu said that his appointment was a call to redouble his service to the team, stressing that with the support of his teammates, management, and coaches, there would be more reasons for celebrations at the end of the 2023/2024 football season.
.
Nwaodu, a former captain of Heartland Footfall Club of Owerri, said he was happy to lead the coal city club.
.
His words:
.
“I must confess that I was excited when I was called up as the team captain and I believe it is a call to service and I hope to serve well in my capacity to make sure we take the ‘Flying Antelopes’ to where it rightly belongs.
.
“I am sure that with the caliber of players in the team and the coach known for results, there will be no going back as we push for the best possible finish in both the NPL and Federation Cup 2024.
.
“I appeal to my teammates for their total cooperation and I believe they are going to support this course. I also call on our teaming supporters to continue to be with us through their prayers and steadfast support during games for us to bring back the glory of our club.
.
Also appointed on Friday was Passy winger, Chidiebere Nwobodo who will serve as the first assistant captain just as midfield maestro, Chinecherem Ugwueze is the second assistant captain.
.
Technical Adviser of the Enugu side, Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu who made the announcement after the team’s training session on Friday, charged the new captain and his assistants to be at their best and always lead by example.
.
“We need to make this announcement now as the date and format for the league season is known and we need leadership amongst the players.
.
“The choice of Nwaodu was not too easy but I believe that having led a premiership side before gave him an edge. However, I wish to see a cordial relationship in the team for us to achieve our set target at the end of the season.”
.
Also speaking, Administrative Secretary of Rangers, Barrister Ferdinand Ugwuarua, congratulated the appointed leaders of the team and charged them to carry every player along in their reign.
.
Recall that the former captain of the side, Uche John left the club on the expiration of his contract just as the assistant duo of Ebuka Anthony and Ugwuoke Ugochukwu are no more with the team.
