Profs Ozumba, Nwaozuzu Co-present CIS-UNN's In-house Publications at 2nd World Igbo Conference

In a show of solidarity and scholarly collaboration, Professors Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba and Gabriella Ihuarugo Nwaozuzu took the stage at the plenary session of the 2nd World Igbo Conference to co-present the in-house publications of the Centre for Igbo Studies (CIS), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). Their joint presentation served as a tribute to the exemplary leadership of Prof. Chris Agbedo, Director of CIS and Convener of the conference.

Against the backdrop of a global gathering aimed at celebrating Igbo heritage and fostering intellectual exchange, Prof B. C. Ozumba, the 14th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria and Prof G. I. Nwaozuzu, former Director, Centre for Igbo Studies UNN, commended Prof. Agbedo’s visionary leadership in advancing the cause of Igbo studies. Their gesture underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting scholarly discourse and preserving cultural heritage.

At the heart of their presentation were the diverse publications produced by the CIS under Prof. Agbedo’s guidance. These publications – Olu-Igbo: Journal of the Centre for Igbo Studies University of Nigeria Nsukka; Ugo Jọnalụ Igbo; Journal of Igbo Language & Linguistics; and Proceedings of Maiden International Conference, Centre for Igbo Studies, University of Nigeria – represent a concerted effort to deepen understanding and appreciation of Igbo culture, language, and history.

In their separate remarks, Professors Ozumba and Nwaozuzu lauded Prof. Agbedo’s dedication and passion for advancing Igbo scholarship. They emphasized the pivotal role played by the CIS in nurturing academic talent and fostering interdisciplinary research in the field of Igbo studies.

Prof. Agbedo, in turn, expressed gratitude for the recognition and support extended by his esteemed colleagues. He highlighted the importance of collective action in driving meaningful change and advancing the frontiers of knowledge.

The co-presentation of CIS’s in-house publications at the 2nd World Igbo Conference served as a testament to the Centre’s commitment to excellence and innovation in Igbo studies. As delegates from around the world converged to celebrate Igbo culture and heritage, the event served as a platform for intellectual engagement and cross-cultural dialogue, propelled by the unwavering dedication of scholars like Professors Ozumba, Nwaozuzu, and Agbedo.
