Executive Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council, Honourable Target Isaiah Segibo has assured the people of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area that his recent resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) alongside his vice-Dr.Josephine Akadi Ekeuwei, Councilors and appointees of the Local Government Council was in the overall interest of the political future of the area .
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary- Ayebaitari Easterday, Honourable Target Isaiah Segibo attributed their reason to resign to what he asserts as the incurable crisis within the People’s Democratic Party at the national and state levels.
“Agreed,we contested election and overwhelmingly won on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party,but the crisis rocking the party has remained unresolvable by its leadership inspire of various interventions by stakeholders.
” We are truly grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area having been elected on the platform of the PDP,but the atmosphere has remained unmanageable,so we have no option than to resign.
” Note that no meaningful development can be realized in any environment that is engulfed in crisis,the statement said in part.
Honourable Target Isaiah Segibo said he will in company of his vice, Councilors and political appointees of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council support the decision of His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, promising that they will continue to stand with him .
He reinstated his administration’s commitment to embark on projects that will meet the yearning of people in the area.
Meanwhile, Segibo has warned communities that are infested with chieftaincy wranglings to be guided by provisions of the law.
He warned that his administration cannot be undermined by people and communities that are involved in internal wranglings and factional disputes against the general interest of the communities.
He called on law enforcement agencies in the area not to allow evil perpetrators, particularly pipeline vandals, unlawful community security handlers, people instigating intra-communal crisis and drivers of marine vessels who sail on the waterways to take the laws into their hands.
He noted that the order restricting the sail of marine vessels in the area after the stipulated 6pm is still in force
The statement called on security agencies to arrest offenders and prosecute them in line with available provisions of the law to serve as deterrent to others.
