Nsukka Youth General Assembly (NYGA) has elected Mr. Ugonna Nwodo as its President.
.
This follows a keenly contested bye-election to fill the leadership vacuum created by its impeached President, Mr. Clinton Ogbonna.
.
Nwodo scored a  total of 512 votes to emerge winner in the election, which took place in Nsukka on Sunday and was declared President-elect by the chairman of the electoral committee, Mr Cosmas Ezea.
.
The two other contestants Mr   Bonaventure Omego and  Kenneth Eze were screened out for not meeting the electoral guildline and requirement .
.
In his acceptance speech, Nwodo thanked members of the assembly for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the organisation.
.
Nwodo noted that his mandate was to complete the remaining tenure of Ogbonna originally allocated to Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, assuring them of his readiness to immediately commence work.
.
The NGYA President-elect said he plans to roll out people-oriented and youth-focused initiatives, including impactful programmes and scholarship opportunities aimed at empowering young people.
.
Also, the President of Igbo-Etiti Youths, Mr Nicholas Odozor, described the victory as a reaffirmation of equity and due process.
.
According to him, the result ensures that Igbo-Etiti completes the remaining two years of its tenure before the leadership rotates to another local government area for a full four-year term, in line with the association’s provisions.
.
Meanwhile, members of the association applauded the peaceful conduct of the election and congratulated the new president on his emergence.
.
They pledged their support for his administration and encouraged him to work closely with government agencies and well-meaning individuals to attract development programmes and create sustainable employment opportunities for youths in the area.
