…Inaugurates multi-million naira electricity project

Minister of Innovation Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji at the weekend declared that the “Icon of Democracy” award conferred on him by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, at the weekend, would spur him to greater contributions to the growth of democracy and development of Enugu State and Nigeria in general.

Speaking at his country home, Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu state when a delegation of NUJ leadership presented the award to him, Chief Nnaji stated that before now he was shying away from public glare but quietly contributing his quota to the development of the society but that the recognition was a tonic to spur him for more action.

He commended the State NUJ leadership and Press Week Committee for finding him worthy for the award.

Also speaking, the Deputy National Chairman, South, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Emma Eneukwu, hailed the achievements of the Minister since his assumption of office.

He described Nnaji’s award by the NUJ as an honour well deserved, saying that the Minister was someone, who do more and talk less.
.
According to him, an honour given to the Minister is an honour given to all of us in the APC family in Enugu State.

“Before he came in, Science and Technology was regarded as a dead Ministry but today he has brought lots of innovations to the ministry, such that, it has become the envy of if everyone, ” Eneukwu said.
.
He said that the Minister had been able to re-jig the Ministry to the admiration of all the stakeholders.

Former National Vice President of NUJ, South East Zone, Comrade Kenneth Ofoma, while speaking, said the council decided to give award to Nnaji having recognised his years of sacrifice for the sustenance of democracy.

Ofoma, who is also a chieftain of the APC, said the award was a sign of the party’s gradual acceptance in the state.

The chairman of Enugu State Council of NUJ, Mr Sam Udekwe, represented by his vice, Mr Regis Anukwuoji said the award was part of it’s 2024 Press Week celebration.”

The leadership of the NUJ said the award was in recognition of Nnaji’s fight for the return and sustenance of democracy in Nigeria since 1999 and his current achievements in the Ministry of Innovation Science and Technology.

The event was witnessed by other APC chieftains, including the State Chairman, the Hon. Barr. Ugochukwu Agballah, the pro-chancellors of Federal University of Agricultural, Umu dike, Abia State, and that of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Ikwo, Ebonyi State, Comrade Fidelis Edeh and Dr. Anthony Neboh, respectively.

In another development,
the Minister, Chief Nnaji, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art electricity project in Onu-Orie, Obuno Autonomous Community in Akpugo within Nkanu West Local Government Area of the State.

Inaugurating the multi-million naira electricity project executed by a leading industrialist, Dr Basil Ogbuanu, at the weekend, Nnaji assured the people of the community of more people-oriented projects.
.
Nnaji noted that he would attract more human capital development projects in terms of employment to complement the existing ones he had attracted to the Akpugo axis of the state, which included the Obuno autonomous community.
.
According to him, I do not have money to give, but I can provide human capital development, infrastructure and projects that will impact the people as I have already given more than 100 people from Akpugo axis employment.

He said, “I will encourage our people to keep supporting all Federal Government programmes and policies, always designed to make life easier, better and safer for them.
.
“I want to thank Dr Basil Ogbuanu, Chairman of Second Coming Nigeria Limited, for this 300 KVA transformer, energizing it and doing electricity reticulation of the entire community.

“I want to encourage other wealthy and philanthropic individuals to emulate him as this is a vital support/complement not only to the people but to the government as well in order to hasten up development of the community.”
