Women in Taraba State have commended the state governor Dr. Agbu Kefas and his wife Mrs. Agyin Kefas for setting up family courts across the 16 local government councils area in the state.

The commendation by the women came on the heels of the occasion of the 2025 international women’s day celebration in Jalingo.

Speaking at a programme entitled: “Accelerated Action” the State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Child Development, Hon. Mrs. Mary Sinjen said that the state government is committed to enforcing the violence against person prohibition law to ensure that victims of gender base violence receive justice and support.

According to her, the success of the programme wouldn’t have been possible without the state first lady Mrs. Agyin Kefas, addibg that her support to women in the state had continued to record unprecedented achievement worthy of celebration, especially in protecting the rights of women and children in the state.

Sinjen explained that the aim of the celebration was to enlighten the public on the protection of the right of women and children, stressing, “the day also calls for sober reflection, highligt of the roles of women in the society.”

The Commissioner further said that Mrs. Agyin Kefas had made remarkable achievements in advancing the course of women and children apart from economic empowerment of women and the delegation of a family court to protect the rights of women and children as the latest.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Revd. Eric Juyoh, commended Governor Kefas and his wife for taking action towards promoting gender equity.

According to him, the state was lucky to have a caring mother like Agying Kefas whose mission and dream gears towards initiating policy reforms and sustain commitment in securing the place women in the state and the country.
He highlighted that the international women’s day was a day set aside to dedicate the achievements, struggles and contribution of women across the world and dismantle barriers, implement policies that empower women and to ensure that every women and girl has equal opportunity to thrive.
According to him, “Gov. Agbu Kefas has taken bold steps to accelerate action towards gender equality, justice and ensures that every girl has access to quality learning and entrepreneurship.

Rev. Juyoh further remarked that the critical steps by the present administration in safeguarding the rights of women and children and ensuring that justice was not delayed has proved Dr. Kefas As gender friendly governor and applauded the state first lady for her first site.

He also lauded the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Children Development Hon. Mrs. Mary Sinjen for her relentless efforts to ensure that the Ministry lives up to expectation in line with Governor Kefas policies and programed in the State particularly for women and children.
