Int'l Day for Girl Child: ESUT SUG President takes Campaign to Schools

To mark this year’s International Girl Child Day, the Awgu Town Undergraduates Association (ATUA) in collaboration with Donnie Saico Media recently held an awareness campaign on education and health development at Urban Girls’ Secondary School, Ugwuleshi Awgu in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The President of ATUA, Comr. Donatus Okolieuwa, who is also the Students Union Government (SUG) President of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) led the team to educate secondary school students on the importance of education, emphasizing their rights as students.

Okolieuwa said that the event was aimed at educating the young girls and fostering awareness about their well-being.

During the outreach, the student body distributed essential educational materials such as books and pens, alongside a substantial number of sanitary pads.

“The gesture not only facilitated access to learning resources but also addressed a critical aspect of menstrual hygiene”, the students’ leader stated.

Expressing genuine support for the girls in the community, Enugu State, and globally, the visiting team highlighted the immense potential within every girl-child, urging the girls to recognize their capabilities and strive to become the change-makers of tomorrow.

The event was significant as it resonated: “empowering girls today, contributes to building a more enlightened and equitable society tomorrow” in minds of the participants.

Indeed, the ATUA and Donnie Saico Media’s joint effort stands as a commendable stride towards realizing the vision of enhancing the quality of girl-child in the society.

Some of dignitaries at the event were: the SUG President of ESUT, Comr. Donatus Okolieuwa, Director of Donnie Saico Media, Comr. Silas Okolie, Comr. Joseph Okolie, Ude Joy Adaeze, Nwafor Edith Uzoma, Igboka Daniel, and Amos.

The presence of the union leaders added colour to the occasion, rekindling the synergy and collaborative efforts in promoting education, health, and empowerment for the girl-child.
