Insecurity greatest threat to Nigeria's democracy - Activist

A Human Rights Activist, Furo Miller Braide has identified insecurity as the greatest threat to Nigeria’s democracy, urging President Bola Tinubu to address it so as to deepen the country’s fledgling democracy.

Braide, stated that festering insecurity is making nonsense of efforts of the government, saying that it could also affect Tinubu’s good intentions if not tackled.

She lamented that despite the debilitating effect of growing insecurity on the nation’s economy, no administration had deliberately set out to address it, stressing that kidnappings, killings and crimes of types have continued in the country.

“We could have deepened the practice of our democratic culture beyond what it is currently if we had solved our insecurity. There’s no way any government can do well in the face of kidnappings, killings and several other crimes against humanity going on in the country . Human life has been reduced to nothing and the previous administrations looked elsewhere, hence confidence has been eroded in the leadership.

“But Tinubu can rebuild this confidence by insisting on adequate protection of lives and property for the common people. He can rebuild this confidence by ensuring that those implicated one way or the other in creating insecurity are meant to face the law among others”, she said.

She also decried the way cases of rape victims have been treated by the government, saying that to solve incessant cases of rape and abuse, the system must be made effective.

She said rape victims should be made to get justice as fast as possible, stressing that they should be treated with love and care.
