Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State on Sunday officially declared open the Golden Jubilee celebration of the state with a solemn call for thanksgiving, unity, and renewed commitment to peace and development.

Speaking at the Rear Admiral Ndubusi Kanu Square, Owerri the governor described the fiftieth anniversary of Imo State as a significant milestone worthy of collective gratitude to God, whom he acknowledged as the giver and sustainer of life over the past five decades.

According to him, opening the Golden Jubilee with a Thanksgiving Service was deliberate and symbolic, noting that it reflects the belief of Imo people in placing God first in all endeavours. He emphasized that acknowledging God at the beginning of the celebrations was the most appropriate way to mark such an important season.

Uzodimma highlighted the historical importance of the venue, named after the first military governor of Imo State following its creation in 1976, describing it as a reminder of the state’s humble beginnings, its journey, and the progress recorded over the years.

He noted that the Imo State of today is vastly different from that of fifty years ago, having made significant strides across various sectors despite numerous challenges. He attributed the resilience and growth of the state to God’s grace, stressing that Imo people have emerged stronger and more united.

The governor used the occasion to reaffirm the unity of the state, declaring that Imo people would not allow division to weaken their collective strength. He described the Jubilee year as a testament to restored stability, renewed confidence, and measurable progress, urging citizens to give all glory to God for these achievements.

Uzodimma paid special tribute to the Church for its consistent prayers, particularly during periods of insecurity and uncertainty at the early stage of his administration. He acknowledged that the peace and stability currently enjoyed in the state are fruits of those prayers and expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the people.

He called on religious leaders and citizens to continue praying for Imo State, Nigeria, and national leaders, with special prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking God to grant him wisdom and guidance.

The governor explained that the Thanksgiving Service was not only a celebration but also a moment of reflection on the past, the opportunities ahead, and the responsibility of all citizens to ensure a peaceful, secure, and prosperous future for the next generation.

As part of the Golden Jubilee activities, Governor Uzodimma urged Imo indigenes to participate fully in the scheduled events, including a free online Imo Essay Quiz aimed at promoting knowledge of the state’s history. He also announced that fifty outstanding individuals and friends of Imo State, both living and deceased, would be honoured for their contributions during the grand finale on Saturday, February 7, this year.

He prayed for God’s continued guidance, protection, and blessings upon Imo State and Nigeria, wishing all citizens a peaceful, meaningful, and memorable Golden Jubilee celebration.
