Imo Guber: DIG, Mba parleys Civil Society Groups, Observers on Security, Information Management

…As IGP wades into alleged assault on NLC President

Supervising Deputy Inspector General of Police for Imo State governorship election, DIG Frank Mbah, yesterday met with representatives of Civil Society Groups and election observers at the State Police Headquarters, Owerri.

Addressing the groups, Mbah described them as partners in progress for a smooth conduct of election, stressing that the groups had over the years contributed in no small measure towards the conduct of credible elections in the country.

Mbah, however cautioned against dissemination of information which facts were not properly verified, pointing out that such information are capable of setting the whole system on fire.

He announced the Public Police Control Room number for the election as well as the contact of other Supervising Senior Police officers, urging the general public to contact the Police through the numbers whenever they have vital security information regarding the election.

The control room numbers, given were: 08034773600, and 08098880197.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun has waded into the alleged assault of the President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Joe Ajero in Owerri.

Disclosing this was the Force Public Relations Officer (FPPRO) Muyiwa Adejobi at the Imo State Police Command headquarters, yesterday.

Adejobi said that the IGP has ordered the Deputy Inspector General of Police, in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation department to take over the matter and ascertain true facts of the incident and address any ambiguity that exists.

He said investigation was imperative as the police had been inundated by reported different versions of the incident since its occurrence.

The Police Spokesman urged the Organized Labour and general public to remain calm while the police carry out an unbiased investigation on the matter.

He assured that appropriate actions would be taken based on the findings.
