Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State yesterday, signed the 2025 Imo State Appropriation Bill into law.

Speaking while signing the Bill into law, Governor Uzodimma said he initially proposed N755 billion as the Appropriation Bill, but the state House of Assembly, in its wisdom graciously adjusted it to N807 billion, which he said, shows clearly the alignment between the legislature and executive in providing critical and valuable infrastructure for the people of Imo State.

Uzodimma said with a total budget of N807 billion, the opportunity for prosperity, wealth creation and bringing the new Imo State to fruition is brighter, adding that a capital allocation of over N600 billion will change the entire face of Imo State.

He commended the Speaker and members of the state Assembly, for the expeditious passage of the budget.

“In line with the expectations of our global partners, and as clear demonstration of our commitment to global conventions, I am very happy that today, the 2025 appropriation Bill is being passed for upload on the website by 31st December, 2024 (end of the year)”.

He re-emphasized that the budget christened “Budget of Expanded Economic Opportunities is designed to drive the economic transformation of the state, through improved infrastructure and industrialization.

He further disclosed that the aim of his government was to position Imo State as the prime destination for genuine investors and serious minded players in the capital market.

The governor also re-emphasize his pledge to fully and faithfully implement the budget and achieve its goals of expanded economic opportunities.

Earlier while presenting the Bill to the Governor for his assent, the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe recalled that the Governor laid the budget before the House on 23rd December, 2024 and members of the House promised to critically and expeditiously consider it.

Olemgbe said consequently, the house went to work, extensively reviewed, debated the bill and finally passed it on 30th December, 2024, with some slight amendments.

The Speaker commended the Governor for the detailed budget estimate, which he said the governor must have taken quality time to prepare, adding that the percentage of money allotted to capital expenditure clearly shows that the Governor was ready to elevate Imo State, infrastructurally, promising that the assembly will have no choice than to support and align with such noble cause.

He promised that the House will continue to work as partners in progress with the executive, to ensure that Imo people enjoy dividends of democracy and good governance.
