Ex-governor Akpabio emerges as10th NASS President

Akwa Ibom South-West Senatorial District has emerged as the new President of the Senate.
Akpabio  defeated Zamfara West Senator-elect, Abdul’aziz Yari, in the 10th Senate President election on Tuesday morning.
Akpabio garnered highest number of votes out of the 109 votes cast.
Chief Akpabio (CON) born 9 December 1962 is a Nigerian lawyer and politician.
 He served as minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022. He resigned on 11 May 2022 on the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to contest in the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress.
He previously served as governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015.
