Enugu hosts 2023 Amaka Chiwuike-Uba International Asthma Conference on July 20

All is now set for the 2023 Amaka Chiwuike-Uba International Asthma Conference (ACUBIAC 2023) slated for July 20, this year.

The event which would be held in Oakland Hotel, Enugu is expected to draw over 1000 participants from the State and Federal Government MDAs, private sector organisations, the academia, civil society, trade and professional associations, and international development agencies.

A statement by Dr Chiwuike Uba, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Amaka Chiwuike-Uba Foundation, disclosed that the theme of the Conference is entitled: “COVID-19 and the Future in the Past: Health Financing and Universal Health Coverage.”

According to him, “The Conference which is organised by the Amaka Chiwuike-Uba Foundation (ACUF) in collaboration with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Nigerian Thoracic Society (NTS), Global Allergy & Airways Patient Platform (GAAPP) and other institutions will be chaired by former Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole.

Speakers at the Conference, he said include: Dr. Uche Ojinmah – President, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA); Prof. Obinna Onwujekwe – Professor of Health Economics, Systems & Policy; Dr Adaeze Ayuk – Consultant Paediatric Pulmonologist; Dr. Ifediora Amobi – Economist and former SSA to the President on National Development; Tonya Winders – President, Global Allergy Asthma Patient Platform (GAAPP); Prof. Musa Babashani – Consultant Physician/Pulmonologist and Larry Oguego – National Coordinator of Human Rights Volunteer Corps. Other well-known personalities are invited as special guests.

Uba explained, “The overall objective of the Conference is to foster the participation of and stimulate dialogue between various stakeholders, including governments, civil society organizations and the business and academic communities, so as to promote sustainable policies for sustainable health financing and universal health coverage, create awareness of health financing and health insurance problems, motivate commitment at the highest level for their solution, and thus promote better management of healthcare at local, State, federal government levels.
