…As it lauds Gov. Mbah on massive infrastructural development in the state

The Executive of the Enugu State Chapter of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has been reconstituted with Comrade Jerry Enoja elected as the Chairman.

The inauguration of the Executive of the human rights group was held at Peekay Garden, New Haven, Enugu on Saturday.
.
In a communique issued after the inuaguration, the organisation condemned in its entirety the recent invasion and murdering of people in Yelewata in Benue State, describing it as barbaric.
The communique was signed by Comrade Ibuchukwu Ezike, Executive Director CLO, Comrade Jerry Enoja, Chairman CLO Enugu State and Comrade Dan Igwe, Secretary CLO Enugu State.

“We condemn in strong terms the noctural invasion and murdering of Nigeria citizens in their sleep in Yelewata, Benue State. It’s an affront on our collective sensibilities and debases our common bond as humans.
.
“We extend our condolences to the people of Benue State and particularly the affected families. We’re together in this grief. We urge the security agencies to pursue the murderers until the law takes its full course.
.
“We also condemn the murdering of one Mrs. Blessing Eze, a mother of four from Enugu State in Ifo LGA of Ogun State for failing to pay illegal festival Levy. The matter should not be swept under the carpet as we call upon the security agencies to track down the perpetrators of the heinous crime. Our condolences to her family.

“We applaud the governor of Enugu State HE, Dr Peter Mbah for the massive infrastructural development on going in the state. We call upon the govt of Enugu State to reconsider the tax regime imposed upon the citizens in view of the economic stress prevailing in Nigeria.
.
“We also implore the govt to discern between rural and urban areas while enforcing the order. Eg, in a village, Amenu Edem 96% of the shops were sealed by acclaimed govt enforcement officials leaving the petty traders stranded and hopelessly hanging around.
.
“We further commend the governor, HE, Peter Mbah and the CP Enugu State for deft and strategic planning and approach to security matters in the State. The governor’s appointment of Col. Didigwu (rtd) and DCP Akinbanalayo as the chairman and commander of Enugu State Forest Guard respectively is highly applauded. We appeal to the govt to strengthen the collaboration between the forest guard and the town unions to enhance intelligence gathering for adequate protection of lives and property in the State.

“While commending the security agencies for the work they’re doing, we advise that the arrest of any citizen will be a product of diligent investigation to avoid oppressive arrests, undue harassment and exploitation of those who would be innocent at the end.

“We thank the governor of Anambra State, Prof., C C. Soludo, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo and other Nigerians who deeemed it necessary to recognise the heroic gallantry of Mr. Ugochukwu Orji. We therefore call on Nigeria Immigration Service for projecting uncommon integrity of the Nigeria Immigration Service by refusing corrupt enrichment at the expense of public good. Such institutional recognition will deepen the war against corruption as it will encourage other public servants to pursue integrity in lieu of corrupt enrichment.

“We shall continue to collaborate with other human rights groups and individuals in upholding the ideals of human right advocacy, defense of the needy inmates and grass root mobilisation and sensitisation.
