Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Pastor Beloved-Dan Anike has launched the One Woman, One Wrapper Initiative, a grassroots empowerment programme designed to celebrate women in the council area.

Speaking during the event, Anike said the programme was in line with the vision of Gov. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to build an inclusive, liveable, and sustainable city where women and children are at the heart of governance.

He recalled a touching encounter with an elderly widow in one of the communities, whose words inspired the initiative.

“She said to me: ‘Chairman, what we need most is not always money, but a reminder that we still belong – that we are still seen, still valued.
.
“Those words struck me deeply because they captured the very essence of inclusive governance the belief that no one should be left behind,” he said.

Anike reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, promising that a society that honours its women cannot fail.

According to him, the initiative goes beyond the distribution of wrappers.
“Through the One Woman, One Wrapper Initiative, we are not just sharing fabric, we are weaving a story of dignity and togetherness.
.
“A wrapper, in our culture, covers shame, celebrates womanhood, and speaks the language of belonging.
“By giving every woman a wrapper, we are telling them: You are not invisible. You are the fabric of our society,” Anike added.

The council boss assured that his administration will not allow social discrimination, economic deprivation, or spatial segregation to hinder the development of the new Enugu city.

The event, attended by women across the LGA and dignitaries from across the state, was marked by excitement and gratitude as hundreds of beneficiaries received the symbolic wrappers.

In the same vein, the wife of Enugu State Governor, Mrs Nkechinyere Mba said that she was delighted to witness such laudable initiative by the workaholic chairman of Enugu East Local GGovernment Area.

The governor’s wife who was represented by her Senior Special Adviser on Special Duties Dr.Mrs Chidimma Egeonu said that this is the first time a council chairman and the wife is given out 10,000 wrapper to all women in the council irrespective of any party they belong.

The first lady said that the gesture would inspire every women that they are not left out rather they were valued and respected.
In her welcome address, the wife of the chairman, Dr. Mrs Happiness Anike while welcoming the wife of the governor in the council described the wrapper as not just a wrapper but a symbol of recognition, love and dignity.

The chairman’s wife commended him for supporting and sponsoring the initiative and also call on other women to continue to support the visionary leadership of the chairman and the governor for more better results.
She said that she must ensure that women especially the down troddens were always remembered in this administration.
Also speaking, the People’s Democratic party (PDP) women leader in the state Mrs Peace Nnaji said that they have never had it like this in the past adding that apart from 10,000 wrapper that the chairman had given scholarships and also paid West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees to their children.
In her contribution, the Senior Special Adviser to the Chairman on Social Welfare and Women Inclusion Mrs Chinwe Ogbu applauded the chairman for the numerous developmental projects he was doing and for being passionate about women’s welfare since his assumption of office for just 11 months.
