Ebonyi Journalist calls for help as hoodlums invade House, looted property

Ebonyi State Journalist and the Public Relations Officer of David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Ebonyi State, Agwu Nwogo has called on the government, security agencies and good spirited individuals to assist him, recover his property looted by criminals in his home town Okposi Okwu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the State.

Agwu, the son of the late commentator and broadcaster Mr. Agwu Nwogo made the appeal in a petition he addressed to the traditional ruler of Okposi Okwu community, HRH Onyibe Chukwu Agwu on Friday .

According to the petition, Agwu, gave accounts of how his compound was vandalized and looted by hoodlums led by his cousin on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

“Padlocks were shattered, windows removed, and all my belongings carted away, including family heirlooms, kitchenware, electronic gadgets, documents, and cherished wedding gifts,” he wrote.

The victim lamented that even personal properties of his late parents, including his father’s overseas certificates and awards, were not spared.

He listed some of the stolen items to include a 43-inch television, DVD and audio players, kitchen equipment, baby items, clothing, wrappers, and cash of over one hundred thousand naira.

Agwu also alleged that one of the stolen items a traditional three-legged iron pot has been recovered from one of the suspects, a resident of Amogbu, who claimed she received it unknowingly from one of the suspects identified simply as Josiah.

He further recounted prior signs of encroachment, including a warning from Josiah’s mother about the illegal rental of part of the house to students and lamented that despite his intervention and a subsequent meeting with the village elders where the suspects were cautioned, the looting still took place.

He then called for urgent cultural and legal steps to bring the perpetrators to book.

“I have been left heartbroken and humiliated,” Okorie stated. “This was not just theft—it was a desecration of my home, my history, and the memory of my late parents.”, he said
