Court rules in favour of Enugu government over jurisdiction by a legal practitioner, Rick Chukwu

Enugu State High Court on Monday rules in favour of Enugu State government over a motion challenging it’s jurisdiction by a legal practitioner, Rick Chukwu.

Chukwu is facing three count charges of forgery, false information, and intention to defraud late Mr Okwudili Aneke of his property, which his client Mr Victor Ekwo was authorised to manage.

In the ruling, Justice R.N. Orji said the court had jurisdiction to prosecute the matter adding that exhibit one attached to the respondent counter affidavit dated July 13 showed that prosecutor had timiously asked that the matter be withdrawn at the magistrate court.

Justice Orji stressed that the matter had been withdrawn since from the magistrate court.

Orji said that it was observed that the previous order given to Chukwu to submit his international passport had not be obeyed.

The legal practitioner pleaded not guilty of the three count charges leveled against him.

Justice Orji granted him bail with a fine of N2,000,000, original copy of his international passport and a property situated in Enugu with Certificate of Occupancy and whose owner also resides in Enugu.

Orji adjourned the matter to Oct.13 for hearing.
