.
Ahead of 2027 general election, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State yesterday, hosted Harmony Project as well as  other Owerri zonal leaders, calling for unity in the zone.
.
Uzodimma strongly advised the people to unite and jettison individual interests for the general interest of the zone, aading that they should avoid external infiltration to prevent what have been happening in the zone in the past to repeat itself in 2027.
.
The governor who re-emphasized his believe in the Charter of Equity, made it clear that the Charter is not to individuals but to zones.
.
He stressed that people should be able to separate between their desires and what they have capacity to realize.
.
While acknowledging that Leaders of Owerri zone have started well through the Imo Harmony Project, he urged the group “to move forward in that direction, create awareness, engage in consultations, reconcile among themselves, unite and be their brothers’ keepers.”
.
“When you do the above, you will find out that the project will not only be cheaper for us, but will also give us what is enduring”.
.
The governor however reminded the people that Nigeria practices partisan democracy, which implies that as a member of APC, the person he will support for governorship must be from APC, pointing out that the person who will succeed him must be one who is ready to drive  the people’s agenda, as against personal agenda.
.
“While  supporting the charter of equity, we will support merit. We need someone who is well focused, bold and courageous, a person who may not be trouble maker, but must fight when it is necessary to fight.
.
Finally, the governor urged the group to go about sensitizing and promoting the charter of equity in a diplomatic manner, to avoid overheating the polity.
.
Earlier in his speech, Leader of the delegation and former Minister of Interior, Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho told the governor that the Imo Harmony Project is dedicated to ensuring that an Owerri man emerges the governor of Imo State in 2027.
.
“We requested for this meeting and His Excellency, the Governor kindly granted our request, and that is what you saw happening.
.
He noted that the governor has said it over and over that he stands by the charter of equity, which recognizes that Owerri zone which has had only seven months, out of the 26 years of democracy, should be allowed to produce the next governor of the state.
.
Ihenacho made it clear that the zone was more united than ever in their quest to produce an Imo State g6overnor of Owerri zone extraction.
