The Centre for Igbo Studies (CIS), University of Nigeria Nsukka has conferred the prestigious Award of Excellence (Idejiụlọ CIS-UNN) on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Prof Charles Arizechukwu Igwe.

The ‘Idejiụlọ CIS-UNN Award of Excellence’ ceremony, which took place on Tuesday 29 August 2023 at the Vice Chancellor’s office, was a testimony to Prof Igwe’s unwavering commitment and remarkable contributions to the field of education, as well as his significant efforts in promoting and preserving the rich heritage of Igbo culture.

Prof Igwe’s visionary leadership as the Vice Chancellor of UNN has played a pivotal role in advancing academic excellence, fostering research, and nurturing a conducive learning environment for both students and faculty. The ceremony was marked by a profound sense of gratitude and admiration from the university community. Prof Agbedo, in his capacity as the Director of CIS, presented the award to Prof Igwe in a dignified event attended by staff members of CIS and key representatives from the wide spectrum of the university management and staff.

During the presentation, Prof Agbedo lauded Prof Igwe for his exceptional leadership, his dedication to academic innovation, and his commitment to upholding the values of the Igbo culture as clearly attested to by his immense supportive roles during the just concluded maiden International Conference and Cultural Carnival of the Centre for Igbo Studies, University of Nigeria.

In his acceptance speech, Prof Igwe expressed his gratitude for the honour bestowed upon him by the Centre for Igbo Studies.

He reiterated his deep-rooted belief in the importance of preserving and celebrating the Igbo heritage, and pledged to continue supporting initiatives aimed at furthering the understanding and appreciation of Igbo culture among students and the broader community.
