…as staff wallop students 3 – 0 in novelty football match

It was celebration galore for students of Blue House and Red House as they clinched first position, respectively at the maiden edition of Prime Group of Schools, Enugu Inter-House Sports Competition held at the main bowl of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Friday.

Expectedly, parents, staff of the schools and well-wishers also joined the victory train to celebrate the students for their outstanding performances.

For the College category overall result, Blue House had 59 Points while Green House followed with 49 Points and Yellow House 33 Points, respectively.

Overall result for the Academy section, Red House took the first position with 21 Points, Yellow House came second securing 19 Points while Green House had 15 Points to clinch third position.
Four Houses from both College and Academy categories competed for trophies in the Inter-house sports fiesta, namely; Blue House, Green House, Yellow and Red House.

Speaking at the colourful event, Mrs. Becky Okeke, Director of Prime Group of Schools, Enugu, highlighted the importance of sports, stressing that the maiden Inter-House Sports Competition is a historic event in the annal of history of the schools.

Mrs. Okeke who later mounted the podium to take the march past salute, keenly contested by the four houses, said she was profoundly delighted to be part of the history of the Prime Group of Schools.

While welcoming parents, guardians and others, she enjoined everyone to cheer their wards and children to victory.

“Inter-house sports competition helps to promote team work, foster healthy competition and improve physical fitness”, she added.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Principal of Prime College, Enugu, Mr. Orji Eke who spoke on behalf of Prime Group of Schools, said that the mental, social and spiritual health benefits of sports cannot be over-emphasized.
“This is why children, and even adults, should be encouraged to participate in sports they find fun in. Having regular sports in our schools is in consonant with the National Policy on Education, which the Federal and Enugu State Ministries of Education enforce in schools for the well-being of our children”, he stated.

Eke noted, “As co-curricular activities, sports are used to inculcate crucial life lessons on values. This Inter-House Sports Competition is therefore a veritable opportunity to celebrate team work among management, staff, parents, students and pupils as members of the Prime Group of Schools community.
.
“It is also to celebrate mental and physical fitness of staff, students and pupils for enduring weeks of rigorous training. As in every competition in life, there are bound to be winners and loser. So, let us enjoy the games in the spirit of sportsmanship.”

The Principal also noted with joy the huge presence of parents and well wishers of the Prime Group of Schools to its maiden Inter-House Sports Competition.

“Your presence here today revalidates our conviction that you’re indeed, interested in us and interested in the holistic development of your wards and our children”, he added.

Athletics such as track and field events including 100meters, 200 meters, 4×100 meters relay race, cheerleaders performance, egg race, ball picking, sack race featured in the inter-house sports competition which attracted many parents and friends of the schools. Teachers and parents also participated in the 100meters race which saw one of the parents falling down shortly after the take off.

A novelty football match between staff and students of the schools also featured in the inter-house sports competition with staff defeating the students 3-0.
