Auto crash claims 5 lives in Enugu as Governor Mbah commiserates with victims, deceased families

BY JUDE OSSAI / ENUGU Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has expressed deep grief over the fatal road accident that occurred at Ugwu Onyeama, near Enugu, along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway on Tuesday.

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed that five people lost their lives while 15 were injured in the mishap.

Mbah who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on mainstream media, Dan Nwomeh said he commiserated with the families and loved ones of casualties of the road mishap, describing the incident as “unfortunate and horrific”.

The governor also said that it was a black Tuesday for the entire state.

He commended the men of the FRSC and kind-hearted Nigerians for their rescue efforts, assuring that the government would render assistance to the injured and also cause enquiry into the unfortunate road crash.

His words:

“I received with a deep sense of loss and grief the report of the auto crash that occurred at Ugwu Onyeama, near Enugu, along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, Tuesday morning, resulting in the loss of several lives and leaving many injured.

“This is unfortunate, horrific, and indeed a black Tuesday for us as a state. My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the victims, and as a state, we pray for the peaceful repose of the dead and quick recovery of the injured.

“As a government, we will do all within our powers to assist the hospitalised.

“The government will also cause enquiry into the remote and immediate causes of fatal accident so that we can make our roads safer and less prone to accidents.

“I commend kind-spirited Nigerians and the men of the Federal Road Safety Corps for their quick response, which, no doubt, helped to save lives. I salute their humanity and professionalism”

He urged the people of the state to continue to offer prayers for the quick recovery of the injured and fortitude to the bereaved.
