Anambra: Police Parade 19 armed robbery suspects, recover AK-47 rifiles, pump-action guns, vehicles, drugs

Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnaghe Obono Itam yesterday paraded 19 persons suspected to be armed robbers, assuring his readiness to combat crimes in the state.

In a press briefing at the State Police Command Headquarters in Amawbia, the Police Commissioner said that the police in partnership with the sister agencies, traditional rulers, Vigilantes among others, arrested over 200 suspected criminals in the state in the past two months.

Among the things recovered and displayed includes 20 AK-47 rifles, 50 pump-action guns, and 10 vehicles, several local- made pistols, 1644 ammunition, 27 vehicles and others and also rescued four kidnap victims, secure five convictions.

Itam maintained that the arrest and recovery were made possible through the efforts of the tactical teams

of the command working tirelessly to ensure peace and security in the state.

He provided an updates on the Command’s law and order in fight against crime and announce the launch of a new initiative aimed at tackling drug abuse and trafficking in the state.

Itam emphasized that there was nothing like unknown gunmen in Anambra but encouraged everyone to take responsibility of its area to ensure that those who engaged in crime account for it.

The State Police boss thanked the Almighty God and the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for the opportunity to serve as the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State and assured that he will put everything in place in tackling crimes in the state.

He commended the state government, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders for their support and collaboration and appealed to the public to continue in supporting the Police in their efforts to combat crime and maintaining of peace in the state.
