With a rare combination of technical acumen and creative spirit, Chief Okereke’s journey has spanned continents and disciplines—from agriculture and economics to journalism, music, research/development and public service. A graduate of Oregon State University – Bachelor of Science (BS) Agriculture/Resource Economics and University of Arkansas – Master of Science (MS) General Agriculture, divine calling drew his interest and talent toward mass communication and grassroots empowerment, laying the foundation for a powerful legacy.

Digital Trailblazer and Founder of Masterweb

In 2000, when digital journalism was virtually non-existent in Nigeria, Chief Okereke launched Nigeria Masterweb and Africa Masterweb, among the country’s first independent online news platforms. These groundbreaking outlets became trusted sources of information, renowned for fearless, accurate reporting and a strong commitment to public accountability. The news media interlinked from one to the other, were popularly known as Masterweb.

Masterweb rapidly gained international recognition and top-tier search engine visibility, becoming a vital outlet for diaspora engagement and public discourse. In 2002, Okereke’s media prominence earned him a special mandate from organizers of Miss Asia Pacific Quest Beauty Pageant to organize a Nigerian leg of the competition. He successfully organized a beauty contest that produced Awa Dicko as Miss Nigeria in the 2003 edition of the competition. Dicko’s expenses for participation in the contest including airfare were paid by the organizers.

Champion of African Unity Through Music

Beyond journalism, Chief Okereke is an accomplished composer whose patriotic and pan-African songs have struck chords across the continent. In 2003 his anthem “God Bless Africa” won the first prize in the Anthem Category of the African Union Symbols Competition that drew over half a million contestants.

Throughout his career, Okereke has remained a staunch advocate for equity and transparency. He has publicly spoken out on issues of institutional injustice and marginalization, turning personal challenges into broader movement for reform and accountability in Nigeria and beyond.

In 2021, in recognition of his contributions to national development, he was appointed to the Governing Board of Cross River Basin Development Authority (CRBDA), reinforcing his continued role in shaping policy and infrastructure for sustainable development in Nigeria.
