Again, Abia Governor, Otti sacks workers amidst economic crunch

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has sacked scores of workers in the state civil service, amidst the prevailing economic crunch fuelled by the subsidy removal by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Findings show that over 300 families will be affected by the disengagement exercise as the governor had previously sacked 7,000 workers in the state.

In a letter by the Head of Service, Lady Joy I. Maduka, those affected are all staff employed into the Abia State Public Service from December, 2022 till date by the previous administration.

Lady Maduka said the move is in sync with “the on-going reorganization in the Abia State Public Service and in line with the provision of the Abia State Public Service Rules nos 02801 and 02803.”

“However, any further directive(s) of His Excellency on this matter shall be communicated in due course.

“Please take appropriate steps to implement immediately and according to His Excellency’s directive.”
