2027: Progressive Women Group Inaugurated In Enugu, Moves To Promote Good Governance

Ahead of the 2027 general election, a body called ‘Progressive Women Group’ has been inaugurated in Enugu to advance the course of good governance in the state.

The political group was founded by former Chairman of the All progressives Congress (APC), Enugu State Chapter, Dr. Ben Nwoye.
.
The women group led by the 2023 APC House of Representatives Candidate, for Udenu/IgboEze North federal constituency Dr. Mrs Promise Oby Ajih, said its membership cuts across political affiliations.

Ajih, pioneer Enugu State Coordinator of the group, stated that the Women group is not a political party but a pressure body aiming at influencing and promoting good governance  outside the traditional party lines.

Speaking at the inauguration of the state executive and local government areas coordinators at the weekend in Enugu, the state Coordinator, Dr. Ajih, averred that their mission is to promote good governance, support progressive administrations benefiting Enugu people,  and drive development, adding that PWG is for women of like minds.

Ajih emphasized that they are disposed to supporting all well meaning citizens of Enugu state that are excelling In various spheres of human endeavour. However, “It’s open to all Enugu women, irrespective of party affiliation.

“We have already engaged Coordinators in all the 17 local government areas of the state, revealing that we are also going to be championing women empowerment. Because we know the efficacy of prayers, we are going to make it our watch word as we continue in this journey” she stated.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after receiving an award of recognition as the Best Commissioner in the state from the women group, a Commissioner in the Enugu state local government Service Commission, Ambassador Amaka Nweke, thanked the women for the honour bestowed on her, urging them not to deviate from its original concept of promoting good governance in the state.

While appreciating the state governor Dr. Peter Mbah for giving her the opportunity to serve in the Commission, she called on the women to support the current administration under Mbah’s watch, stressing that the government has done marvelously in all sectors of the state economy.

“I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for being recognized by the Progressive Women Group ably led by the inspiring Dr. Oby Ajih Akaninyene, aka Woman Jagaban during the inaugural and awards event organised by the group.
.
“It was a momentous day, marking the beginning of a new chapter for this dynamic group. I dedicate this award to the Almighty God, who has been my guiding light, help, and source of strength. I’d also like to express my heartfelt appreciation and dedication of my award to His Excellency, Governor Barrister Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and his admirable wife H.E Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah for giving me a seat at the table and amplifying my voice in Enugu State. Your leadership and commitment to empowering women and girls have created opportunities for us to thrive.
“I’m honoured to be part of a community that empowers and uplifts women. Thanks to the Progressive Women Group for this recognition, and I pledge to continue serving with integrity and dedication. Together, we can.

“I salute Dr. Oby Ajih’s resilience, and I want to call on  the group to make unity its watch-word. May I also use this medium to ask our women  to endeavour to get their voters cards ahead of the 2027 general election so as to  enable them perform their civic responsibility during the  general elections.

“Lets keep supporting our dear working governor, who  deserves a second term in office going by what his administration has achieved just in two years he assumed office”
.
According to Ambassador Nweke, for the group  to succeed, they must endeavour to operate as one united family, shun any act capable of instigating crisis in the organization.

The traditional Ruler of Ede Oballa, in Nsukka Council area of the state, His Royal Majesty Igwe professor VC Onah, had offered royal blessings on the leadership of the group, praying God to guide and direct them in their operations.
.
High points of the colourful event graced by huge number of women from various local government areas of the state, and serving lawmakers, was the presentation of awards of recognition to some citizens of the state who have impacted on the lives of the less privileged, and contributed to the upliftment of the society In various ways.
