A one-day meeting of stakeholders from the Enugu North Senatorial Zone under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Enugu State has ended in Ogbede, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State with a call for unity in the zone.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, Brigadier- General Josef Okoloagu (rtd), a member of the APC Board of Trustees (BoT), lamented the dwindling fortunes of the party in the state, attributing it to internal crisis that had engulfed the party in recent time.

Okoloagu said, “We have evaluated, tinkered with and remunerated on what concerns our party with regards with perennial crisis being engineered deliberately by the purported party chairman, Barrister Ugochukwu Agballah of whom the court has suspended through an injunction and which the injunction has not been vacated but because of the normal impunity that pervades the land he has continued to act as if he is the party chairman.”

The APC chieftain accused the Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji and the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma for backing Agballah, alleging that the Imo Governor has spoiled the party in the state.

“Governor Hope Uzodimma should concentrate on Imo State and leave Enugu State alone because we must trace where the problems are coming from and from there we will solve our problems. We condemned in its entirety the loopsided appointments being made which presently skewed the Enugu North zone far below and below what have gotten.

“And these are people who are very submissive and loyal to the party. Yes, they might not have the contact but they believe in protecting the system more by themselves that advantage cannot be taken for granted.”

“So we ask Mr President that for future appointments that Enugu North Senatorial Zone be treated fairly like other zones not just in Enugu State but across the country.

Okoloagu also noted that his involvement in politics is not to make money but to serve his people, recalling how he rejected N50m and Board chairmanship from late Senator Ayogu Eze to withdraw his legal suit at the election tribunal.

“I rejected that money and I am still in APC. Senator Eze of the blessed memory went to the Senate two times and back, the rest is history.”

Speaking in the same vain, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odo, former Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, said, “We are now in governance and in governance, we are in APC. We are struggling to take over power and able to showcase reasonable projects and calculated governance that will benefit the people, so we strongly commended Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for his giant strides especially in Enugu North Senatorial Zone.

“For us, we believe he exceeded our expectations and we pray and urge him not to relent in what he is doing to the people of Enugu North Senatorial Zone. Enugu APC, we are not doing politics for the sake we are doing politics. We are doing politics for good governance.

“We have seen such good governance in Enugu State in terms of infrastructures and our people have benefited in one way or the other, then, of course, a lot of people are undertaking contracts. There is dualization of Nike-Ugwogo-Opi-Nsukka Road. We have relatively an advantage of the school system being constructed in all the 260 wards in the state.
