State of Emergency in Rivers serves best interest of Nigeria – Uzodimma

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma who is the Chairman, South East Governors Forum has thrown his weight behind the  recent declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.

Uzodimma made this assertion while addressing Government House Correspondents at the Government House in Owerri.

Governor Uzodimma who doubles as the chairman Progressives (APC) Governors Forum, praised the President’s proactive measures aimed at addressing the escalating tensions in Rivers State, adding that the Progressives Governors Forum will back any initiatives that prioritize national security and public safety.

He opined that the measure which included suspension of the Governor, Siminalayi  Fubara, his Deputy Ngozi Ogbu and entire members of the House of Assembly, as well as the appointment of retired former Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ebok Ibas as the Sole Administrator of the state, for an initial six Months duration will help to douse tension in the state and create room for all actors in the crisis to work collaboratively towards a peaceful resolution.

The governor also commended the National Assembly for its support for the President’s actions, noting that their decisions align with national interest.

Uzodimma who described the Sole Administrator as a man of sufficient knowledge, expressed optimism that he will implement the terms of reference handed to him by the President to the later and work according to the laws of the land, while restoring peace and order to Rivers State.
